Fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology

• MD / DO or equivalent medical degree
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine residency before fellowship start
• Board eligible or board certified in Internal Medicine
• Eligible for medical licensure in North Carolina
• Strong academic record with interest in gastroenterology, hepatology, and research
• For international applicants: must meet ECFMG certification requirements and visa eligibility (as per institutional policies)

The Gastroenterology & Hepatology Fellowship at UNC School of Medicine is an ACGME-accredited, comprehensive subspecialty training program designed to prepare physicians for careers in clinical practice, academic medicine, and research. The program provides a strong foundation in the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal, liver, and pancreatic diseases, with extensive exposure to both inpatient and outpatient care as well as advanced endoscopic procedures. Fellows train in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and gain hands-on experience in areas such as inflammatory bowel disease, liver disorders, motility disorders, and advanced therapeutic endoscopy. The curriculum integrates clinical training, research, and teaching, enabling fellows to develop expertise in evidence-based patient care and scholarly activity. The program supports career development through mentorship and opportunities to present research at national conferences.
