The Fellowship in Emergency Ultrasound (Point-of-Care Ultrasound) at UC Irvine School of Medicine is a one-year advanced training program designed for emergency medicine physicians to develop expertise in bedside ultrasound for rapid diagnosis and management of acute and critically ill patients. Conducted within a high-volume Level I trauma center, the program provides extensive hands-on experience in performing and interpreting ultrasound applications such as trauma (FAST), cardiac, lung, abdominal, vascular, and procedural imaging. Fellows actively participate in clinical emergency department shifts, supervise and teach residents, and contribute to ultrasound education, research, and program development. The fellowship emphasizes clinical excellence, teaching skills, and leadership in emergency ultrasound, preparing graduates for academic and leadership roles in emergency medicine and point-of-care imaging.
