The Dermatopathology Fellowship at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is a one-year ACGME-accredited subspecialty training program that provides intensive experience in the microscopic diagnosis of skin diseases by integrating both dermatology and pathology. Fellows are trained to evaluate a wide spectrum of skin biopsy specimens, including inflammatory disorders, infectious diseases, and benign and malignant cutaneous tumors. The program emphasizes hands-on learning through daily sign-out sessions, clinicopathologic correlation, and close mentorship from experienced dermatopathologists. In addition to diagnostic training, fellows gain exposure to special techniques such as immunohistochemistry and molecular diagnostics, participate in multidisciplinary conferences, and are encouraged to engage in teaching and research activities. By the end of the program, fellows develop advanced diagnostic skills and are well prepared for board certification and independent practice in dermatopathology.
