The Dermatologic Surgery Fellowship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a prestigious one-year fellowship designed to develop future academic leaders in dermatologic surgery. Conducted through the Department of Dermatology and the McGaw Medical Center, the fellowship offers comprehensive training in Mohs micrographic surgery, dermatologic oncology, advanced reconstructive surgery, laser procedures, and cosmetic dermatology. Fellows gain extensive experience in the management of common, rare, and recurrent skin cancers while performing complex facial and cutaneous reconstructions following tumor excision. Training takes place in a high-volume tertiary referral center, allowing exposure to multidisciplinary care involving oncology, plastic surgery, head and neck surgery, and other specialties. The curriculum emphasizes both clinical excellence and scholarly development through participation in clinical trials, multicenter research studies, quality improvement initiatives, and translational research projects. Fellows attend structured didactic lectures, journal clubs, anatomy courses, multidisciplinary tumor boards, and national scientific meetings. Upon completion, graduates are exceptionally well prepared for careers in academic dermatologic surgery, Mohs surgery, cosmetic dermatology, and clinical research.
