The Clinical Informatics Fellowship at UMass Chan Medical School is a two-year, ACGME-accredited program sponsored by the Department of Medicine and open to applicants from any medical specialty. The curriculum centers on clinical informatics, quality improvement methodology, and research methods, with a strong focus on patient safety and medical management within a technology-driven care environment. Fellows gain hands-on experience through UMass Memorial Health's mature Epic electronic health record system, covering over 2.6 million unique patients, alongside exposure to advanced initiatives such as multidisciplinary telehealth programs and the Hospital at Home model. Training is delivered through a mix of in-person and virtual learning within interdisciplinary teams, in close collaboration with the Clinical Informatics Section in the Division of Health Systems Science, ultimately preparing fellows for board certification in Clinical Informatics and leadership roles that bridge clinical practice with evolving health information technology.
