The Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine Fellowship at UC Irvine School of Medicine is a one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship that provides advanced training in transfusion medicine, blood banking, cellular therapy, and apheresis. Fellows gain comprehensive experience in the collection, processing, testing, and clinical use of blood and blood components, as well as the diagnosis and management of transfusion reactions, patient blood management, therapeutic apheresis, stem cell collection and processing, immunohematology, coagulation disorders, and transfusion support for complex medical and surgical patients. Training is conducted at UC Irvine Medical Center under the supervision of experienced faculty and includes laboratory management, quality assurance, multidisciplinary consultations, resident teaching, and clinical research opportunities. The fellowship prepares graduates for board certification in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine and careers in academic medicine, hospital transfusion services, and blood centers.
