Overview

The General Anaesthesia Fellowship at SCGH offers comprehensive clinical exposure across a tertiary hospital with complex surgical caseloads. Fellows participate in a variety of lists — elective and emergency — including vascular, ENT, upper GI, and other subspecialty theatres. The role also includes non-clinical time (about a half-day per week) for audit, research, or teaching activities. There is an opportunity to tailor the fellowship based on one’s interests: fellows can request exposure to areas such as cardiothoracic, vascular, regional anaesthesia, or acute pain. The department supports professional development, allowing fellows to contribute to teaching junior staff, lead quality-improvement projects, and build academic skills. The fellowship is designed to complement subspecialty fellowships: many general anaesthesia fellows combine their contract with another fellowship (e.g., simulation, regional) so they complete 12 months of work at SCGH.
