Emergency Medicine Residency Program

1. Applicants must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
2. Applicants with a Doctor of Medicine degree must have passed Step 1 of the United States Medical Licensing Examination and be scheduled to take Step 2.
3. Three letters of recommendation are required. The program recommends that at least two be from emergency medicine physicians in the electronic Standardized Letter of Evaluation format.
4. Applicants should submit all required application materials by the end of October to remain competitive.
5. International medical graduates should note that the program does not commonly accept applications from international medical graduates.
6. Applicants are evaluated based on their qualifications, and interview invitations are not guaranteed.

The Department of Emergency Medicine delivers emergency care and supports physician training in a comprehensive academic medical setting. The Emergency Medicine Residency Program is a three-year postgraduate training program that prepares physicians to assess and manage medical emergencies, traumatic injuries, and critically ill patients. Residents gain hands-on experience in emergency departments, trauma care, intensive care, pediatric emergency medicine, emergency ultrasound, and other specialized clinical areas. The program also includes academic conferences, simulation-based learning, and research opportunities to develop the clinical judgment and practical skills required for independent emergency medicine practice.

1. Apply through the Residency Centralized Application Service.
2. Complete and submit the application with all required supporting documents.
3. Provide proof of the required medical degree.
4. Submit the required United States Medical Licensing Examination scores.
5. Arrange for three letters of recommendation, preferably including at least two from emergency medicine physicians using the Standardized Letter of Evaluation format.
6. Submit the completed application by the end of October to remain competitive.
7. The program reviews completed applications on a rolling basis.
8. Selected applicants may be invited to interview. Interviews are generally conducted from October through January.
