Emergency Medicine Residency Program

• Must hold an MD or DO degree (or international equivalent such as MBBS) from a recognized medical school
• Open to allopathic, osteopathic, and international medical graduates (IMGs)
• Must have USMLE Step 1 (or COMLEX Level 1) and Step 2 (or equivalent) scores; Step 2 must be passed before ranking
• Should have strong academic performance and clinical background
• Must submit required documents: CV, personal statement, medical school transcript, Dean’s letter, and 3 letters of recommendation
• Must be eligible for ECFMG certification (for international applicants)
• Should be eligible for U.S. residency training/licensure
• Preference for candidates with interest in emergency medicine, leadership qualities, and commitment to patient care

The Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (JHUSOM), Baltimore is a 4-year ACGME-accredited training program focused on developing expertise in the rapid assessment and management of acute and life-threatening conditions. The program provides comprehensive training through high-volume emergency department exposure, hands-on experience in trauma care, critical care, resuscitation, and emergency procedures, and a strong emphasis on simulation-based learning and research. Residents work with diverse patient populations and complex cases while gaining skills in clinical decision-making, leadership, and interdisciplinary collaboration, preparing them for careers in emergency medicine practice, subspecialty fellowships, or academic medicine.

1. Apply through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) by submitting an online application
2. Upload required documents: CV, personal statement, medical school transcript, Dean’s letter (MSPE), USMLE scores, and letters of recommendation (including EM-specific evaluation)
3. Applications are reviewed holistically by the program faculty
4. Shortlisted candidates are invited for interviews (usually between Oct–Feb)
5. Candidates must register and participate in the NRMP (National Resident Matching Program)
6. Submit rank order list of preferred programs
7. Final selection is done through the Match process, and selected candidates receive placement confirmation
