About Course

The UMass Chan Urology Residency follows a five-year curriculum built around the AUA core curriculum, beginning with a general surgery internship (PGY-1) followed by four years of urology-focused training (PGY-2 through PGY-5). Residents attend weekly didactic sessions covering topics such as stone disease, female pelvic medicine, infertility and sexual dysfunction, pediatric urology, reconstruction, urologic oncology and trauma, voiding dysfunction, general urology principles, and practice management, alongside recurring academic activities like Grand Rounds, Morbidity & Mortality conferences, UroRadiology sessions, Journal Club, and Multidisciplinary Tumor Board. The program also provides hands-on training in advanced surgical techniques including robotic, laparoscopic, and endoscopic procedures, with broad clinical exposure across major urology subspecialties, supported by both full-time academic faculty and community-based urologists, along with integrated research opportunities in basic, translational, and clinical investigation.

Admission Process

Apply through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) — standard for most US residency applications
Since Urology matches occur outside the standard NRMP timeline, applicants apply through the AUA (American Urological Association) Match
Submit required documents via ERAS: USMLE/COMLEX scores, letters of recommendation, personal statement, medical school transcript, Dean's letter (MSPE)
Interview with the UMass Chan Urology program (selected candidates)
Match — the program and applicant both rank each other; results announced through the AUA Match
Upon matching, complete credentialing, license verification, and pre-employment checks (drug test, background check) before the July 1 start date
