Overview
The Urology Residency Program at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, Brooklyn is a five-year ACGME-accredited residency program designed to provide advanced training in the diagnosis, medical management, and surgical treatment of urologic disorders. The program offers comprehensive clinical and operative experience in general urology, urologic oncology, endourology, robotic and minimally invasive surgery, pediatric urology, reconstructive urology, female urology, male infertility, urinary stone disease, and urologic trauma. Residents receive training across affiliated clinical sites, gaining hands-on experience in inpatient care, outpatient clinics, surgical procedures, and multidisciplinary patient management. The curriculum emphasizes progressive surgical responsibility, clinical decision-making, research, academic development, conferences, and board examination preparation, preparing graduates for independent practice in urology and advanced fellowship opportunities. Eligibility
- Must hold an MD or DO degree (or equivalent medical degree such as MBBS) from an accredited medical school
- Eligible applicants include:
- Graduates of LCME-accredited medical schools in the United States or Canada
- Graduates of AOA-accredited osteopathic medical schools
- International Medical Graduates (IMGs) who meet U.S. Graduate Medical Education requirements
- IMGs must have:
- Valid ECFMG certification
- Completed required USMLE examinations
- Applicants must meet SUNY Downstate Graduate Medical Education eligibility requirements
