Residency in Internal Medicine

1. Applicants must hold a qualifying medical degree, such as a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or equivalent degree.
2. Applicants must submit a complete application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
3. The application must include the ERAS common application form, personal statement, medical school transcript, Dean’s Letter, and three letters of recommendation.
4. One recommendation letter must be from the Chair of Medicine or designee, with at least two additional recommendation letters.
5. Applicants must have passed United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 and/or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) before starting the program. There is no minimum score cutoff.
6. International medical graduates must have a valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate.

1. Submit the application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. Submit all required application documents and three letters of recommendation.
3. Applicants may apply to one or more eligible UCLA Internal Medicine tracks, with each track reviewed independently.
4. UCLA reviews applications based on academic performance, clinical skills, recommendation letters, scholarship, community engagement, and other application factors.
5. Applicants who meet the program's selection criteria may be invited for an interview.
6. For the 2026–2027 application season, interviews are conducted virtually.
7. Applicants participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) for placement into the selected residency track.
8. Matched residents complete the required program onboarding and begin the Internal Medicine Residency.
