Radiation Oncology residency

The UAB Radiation Oncology Residency Program provides comprehensive training in clinical radiation oncology, radiation physics, and radiobiology. Residents complete at least 36 months of clinical rotations and work closely with faculty across major cancer subspecialties, including breast, central nervous system, head and neck, thoracic, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, gynecologic, pediatric, lymphoma, and hepatobiliary cancers. Training includes modern techniques such as intensity-modulated radiation therapy, image-guided radiation therapy, adaptive radiotherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, stereotactic body radiation therapy, and brachytherapy. Residents also participate in multidisciplinary clinics, tumor boards, treatment planning, physics and radiation biology education, research, and quality and safety activities. The program provides opportunities for dedicated research during the third and/or fourth year, preparing graduates for careers in academic medicine or clinical practice.

1. Complete the required medical degree and an accredited Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY-1) internship.
2. Prepare and submit the residency application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
3. Apply specifically to the UAB Radiation Oncology Residency Program.
4. UAB reviews applications and selects qualified candidates for interviews.
5. Selected applicants participate in the program's interview process.
6. Applicants participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Match.
7. Successful applicants begin Radiation Oncology residency training at the Post-Graduate Year 2 (PGY-2) level. UAB typically offers three positions each year through the NRMP Match.
