Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Program

The Internal Medicine Primary Care Residency Program at UMass Chan Medical School is a 3-year specialized residency track focused on comprehensive primary care and longitudinal patient management. Residents receive extensive ambulatory training while maintaining strong exposure to inpatient medicine, ICU care and medical subspecialties. The curriculum emphasizes preventive medicine, chronic disease management, women's and men's health, geriatrics, behavioral health, quality improvement, population health, practice management, medical education and research, preparing graduates for careers in primary care and academic medicine.

1. Submit the residency application through ERAS
2. Submit the required application materials, including medical school records, examination scores, CV, personal statement and recommendation letters
3. Applicants may apply to both the Primary Care Track and the Categorical Internal Medicine Track
4. The Primary Care Track has a separate NRMP Match number: 3050140M0
5. Selected applicants are invited for an interview; applicants applying to both tracks who are selected can interview on the same day
6. Participate in the NRMP Match
7. Candidates who match must complete UMass Chan GME credentialing, Massachusetts licensure and other appointment requirements before beginning residency
