The UAB Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program is a four-year categorical residency designed to provide comprehensive training in the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients with disabilities and musculoskeletal or neurological conditions. Residents receive progressive clinical responsibility through inpatient and outpatient rotations at UAB Hospitals, Spain Rehabilitation Center, Children’s Hospital of Alabama, Birmingham Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and other affiliated sites. Training covers areas such as spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, stroke, neuromuscular disorders, sports medicine, pain medicine, pediatric rehabilitation, orthotics and prosthetics, and musculoskeletal medicine. The program also provides opportunities for electives, research, simulation-based learning, multidisciplinary care, and development of procedural and clinical skills needed for independent practice as a physiatrist.
