Eligibility Criteria

MD or DO degree, or expected completion before starting PGY-1.
Medical school graduation within the last 5 years, or no more than 3 years away from clinical medicine.
USMLE or COMLEX scores are accepted.
3 letters of recommendation plus the Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE) are required.
U.S. clinical experience is preferred, along with a recommendation letter from a PM&R physician.

About Course

The Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) Residency Program at the University of Minnesota Medical School is a 4-year ACGME-accredited residency providing comprehensive training in the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients with physical disabilities, musculoskeletal conditions, neurological disorders, and other functional impairments. Residents receive training across inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, pain medicine, electrodiagnostic medicine (EMG), spinal cord injury, pediatric rehabilitation, sports medicine, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and other PM&R subspecialties, along with didactic education, research, and scholarly activities. The program includes at least 12 months of acute inpatient rehabilitation and prepares residents for careers in clinical practice, academic medicine, and rehabilitation leadership.

Admission Process

Submit the required application documents electronically.
Submit 3 letters of recommendation and the MSPE.
Submit USMLE or COMLEX examination results.
Selected applicants are invited for an interview.
Interviews are conducted by invitation only.
The program participates in the NRMP Main Residency Match.
The program offers 4 categorical positions and 1 advanced position annually.
