The Northwestern University Interdepartmental Neuroscience Program (NUIN) is one of the largest and most comprehensive neuroscience PhD programs in the United States. The program brings together approximately 160 faculty members and 160 doctoral students from more than 20 departments across Northwestern University's Chicago and Evanston campuses. Students benefit from an exceptionally collaborative research environment that spans basic neuroscience, translational neuroscience, neuroengineering, cognitive neuroscience, systems neuroscience, and clinical neuroscience. During the first year, students complete rigorous foundational coursework and participate in multiple laboratory rotations before selecting a dissertation mentor. The curriculum is designed to provide broad exposure to neuroscience while allowing students to develop deep expertise within a chosen research area. Students gain access to state-of-the-art facilities, advanced imaging technologies, computational neuroscience resources, and numerous NIH-funded training programs. The program also emphasises professional development, scientific communication, teaching experience, and responsible conduct of research. Doctoral candidates complete original research leading to peer-reviewed publications and a dissertation.
