PhD in Neuroscience

The PhD in Neuroscience at UTMB is offered through the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and provides intensive research training in all facets of nervous system biology. Students receive a solid foundation in core biomedical science through structured coursework and laboratory rotations. They then join research laboratories in areas such as neurodevelopment, neurodegeneration, synaptic physiology, neuroimmunology, behavior, and cellular signaling. The curriculum is designed to foster critical thinking, experimental design skills, data analysis, and scientific communication. Under the mentorship of faculty researchers, students conduct original dissertation research that advances understanding of nervous system function and disease. Graduates are prepared for careers in academia, industry, government research agencies, and biotechnology sectors focused on neuroscience.
