PhD in Neuroscience

• Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.A.) or equivalent from an accredited institution
• Candidates should have a strong academic background in neuroscience, biological sciences, chemistry, physics, mathematics, psychology, or related biomedical disciplines
• Previous research experience in neuroscience, neurobiology, biomedical sciences, or related fields is strongly preferred

The PhD in Neuroscience at UNC School of Medicine (UNCSOM), Chapel Hill is an interdisciplinary doctoral research program designed to provide advanced training in the study of the nervous system, including its development, function, and disorders. The program offers comprehensive research-based education in molecular, cellular, systems, behavioral, and translational neuroscience through advanced coursework, laboratory rotations, seminars, and dissertation research. Conducted through the Biological and Biomedical Sciences Program (BBSP), students gain exposure to diverse neuroscience research areas before selecting a faculty mentor and specialized research focus. The program covers areas such as neural circuits, neurodevelopment, neurogenetics, brain function, cognition, and neurological disease mechanisms, preparing graduates for careers in academic research, biotechnology, healthcare, and biomedical sciences.
