Pathology residency programs

The Pathology Residency Program at UAB Heersink School of Medicine provides comprehensive training in the diagnosis and understanding of disease through Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, or combined Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology. Residents gain clinical experience in surgical pathology, cytopathology, autopsy pathology, forensic pathology, molecular pathology, neuropathology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, immunology, transfusion medicine, hematology, and hemostasis. The program also emphasizes research, teaching, multidisciplinary collaboration, and progressive clinical responsibility, preparing residents for independent pathology practice, board certification, and academic or community-based careers.

1. Submit the application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. UAB conducts a holistic review of applications, considering factors such as medical school performance, examination scores, research activities, and other qualifications.
3. Qualified applicants are selected for an interview.
4. Selected applicants are contacted by email to schedule their interview.
5. Interviews are conducted in a semi-blinded format, with interviewers having access to limited information before the interview.
6. Applicants participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), as applicable, for final residency placement.
