Pathology residency programs

1. Medical school graduate with an appropriate medical degree.
2. Applicants may be new medical school graduates or may have completed one or more years of training in a clinical specialty, medical research, or a transitional year internship.
3. Submit a complete application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
4. Submit a personal statement and curriculum vitae.
5. Submit three letters of recommendation.
6. Submit United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX-USA) transcripts/scores.
7. Submit the Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE/Dean’s Letter) and medical school transcript.
8. International medical graduates must provide an Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certificate.
9. Only J-1 visas sponsored through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates Exchange Visitor Sponsorship Program are accepted.

The Pathology Residency Training Program at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is a four-year comprehensive combined training program in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. The curriculum integrates both areas throughout all four years, providing training in surgical pathology, cytopathology, autopsy and forensic pathology, neuropathology, molecular biology, hematopathology, microbiology, clinical chemistry, blood banking, and laboratory management. Residents also receive exposure to specialized rotations at affiliated institutions, including UCLA, Cedars-Sinai, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office. The program emphasizes progressive diagnostic responsibility, teaching, research, and preparation for American Board of Pathology certification and future fellowship or independent practice.
