Neonatal Perinatal Medicine Fellowship

The Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship Program at the University of Minnesota Medical School is a 3-year, ACGME-accredited fellowship designed to train physicians in advanced care of critically ill and high-risk newborns. Fellows receive extensive clinical training in Level IV NICU care, neonatal transport, ECMO, cardiology, maternal-fetal medicine, and intermediate neonatal care at University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital and Children’s Minnesota–St. Paul. The first year is primarily clinical, while the second and third years emphasize research and scholarly activity along with continued clinical training. Fellows also receive training in education, quality improvement, clinical/basic research, and other scholarly areas.

1. Apply through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service).
2. Register and participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
3. Submit the required application materials through ERAS.
4. Submit 3 letters of recommendation, preferably including one from a neonatologist and one from the residency program director.
5. Ensure the required ACGME-accredited residency is completed before the fellowship start date.
6. The program reviews applications and selects candidates for the interview/selection process.
7. Participate in the NRMP Fellowship Match. The program generally matches 3 candidates each year.
