Overview

The MD – Biochemistry program is a three-year postgraduate medical course that provides in-depth training in biochemical, molecular, and laboratory-based aspects of medicine.
Throughout the course, students study core subjects including general biochemistry, molecular/cell biology, metabolism, physiology-correlated biochemistry, nutrition, and advanced diagnostics, along with training in laboratory techniques, instrumentation, and clinical laboratory management.
In addition to theoretical classes, the curriculum emphasizes hands-on training: performing diagnostic laboratory investigations, interpreting biochemical test results, quality control, lab management, and research methodology — preparing graduates to handle biochemical diagnostics in hospitals and labs.
The program also exposes students to interdisciplinary clinical postings — often in departments such as general medicine, endocrinology, nephrology, gastroenterology, and intensive care — to give context to biochemical findings and integrate lab results with clinical medicine.
Further, MD Biochemistry trains students in teaching methodology, enabling them to serve as faculty members or lab-instructors in medical colleges or allied health institutions.
On completion, graduates are prepared for diverse roles: diagnostic laboratory physicians/biochemists, researchers, educators, or roles in pharmaceutical/biotech industries — contributing to research, diagnostics, quality control, and translational medicine.
