Interventional Radiology Independent Residency

The Interventional Radiology Independent Residency Program at the University of Minnesota Medical School is an ACGME-accredited advanced training program designed for diagnostic radiologists pursuing specialized training in interventional radiology. The program provides comprehensive hands-on training in image-guided minimally invasive procedures, pre-procedure assessment, procedural management, inpatient care, and post-procedure follow-up, preparing residents for independent IR practice and the American Board of Radiology (ABR) IR/DR examination. ESIR residents may enter directly into the second year after completing the required first year of IR training at their home institution.

1. Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. Submit 3 letters of recommendation, including one from the Diagnostic Radiology Program Director.
3. Submit the Dean’s Letter (MSPE).
4. Submit a personal statement and CV.
5. Submit official medical school transcript(s), USMLE/COMLEX scores, and photograph.
6. Application deadline: December 5.
7. ESIR applicants must additionally submit the required ESIR verification letter and four-year DR residency block diagrams.
8. Selected applicants proceed through the program's interview and selection process.
