The Vitreoretinal Disease and Surgery Fellowship at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is a two-year advanced clinical and surgical fellowship focused on the diagnosis and management of vitreoretinal diseases. Fellows receive extensive training in retinal imaging, diagnostic techniques, medical retina, and vitreoretinal surgery, including procedures such as scleral buckling and vitrectomy. The program provides progressive surgical responsibility and clinical experience across multiple UAB-affiliated hospitals and clinics. Fellows also participate in teaching and supervision of ophthalmology residents, preparing them for advanced practice in vitreoretinal disease and surgery.
