Fellowship in Vitreo Retinal Surgery (FVRS)

• Must have completed an accredited Ophthalmology residency training program
• Must hold an MD or equivalent medical degree
• Must be eligible for medical licensure in Illinois
• Candidates must have completed ophthalmology specialty training before starting the fellowship
• Applicants should apply through the vitreoretinal fellowship application process (AUPO/SF Match pathway)
• Selected candidates are reviewed based on ophthalmology training background, clinical experience, and academic qualifications

The Fellowship in Vitreo Retinal Surgery (FVRS) at UICOM is an advanced two-year ophthalmology fellowship that provides comprehensive clinical and surgical training in the management of vitreoretinal diseases. The program focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of complex retinal and vitreous conditions, including retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, macular diseases, retinal vascular disorders, and pediatric vitreoretinal disorders. Fellows receive extensive hands-on experience in vitreoretinal surgery, retinal imaging, outpatient retina clinics, surgical procedures, clinical research, and academic activities under the guidance of experienced faculty.

1. Applicants must complete the fellowship application process for the Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellowship
2. Candidates are required to submit their application materials as instructed by the fellowship program
3. Applications are reviewed by the Vitreoretinal Fellowship program directors/preceptors
4. Eligible candidates are invited for the interview process
5. Final selection is completed through the fellowship selection process (AUPO/ophthalmology fellowship match pathway)
6. Fellowship appointments generally begin in July, and candidates are encouraged to apply approximately one year before the anticipated start date
