The Fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine is a 12-month ACGME- and AAST-approved fellowship and forms the first year of the institution’s two-year Surgical Critical Care & Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Fellowship. It provides advanced training in the management of critically ill and injured surgical patients through direct patient care, teaching rounds, multidisciplinary conferences, research, and specialized rotations. Fellows rotate through the Surgical Trauma ICU, Cardiothoracic ICU, Neuro ICU, Ultrasound, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, and an elective rotation. The program develops expertise in surgical critical care decision-making, organ-system support, ICU administration, outcomes assessment, research, and preparation for surgical critical care board examinations.
