Fellowship in Surgical Critical Care

The Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at UC Irvine School of Medicine is a one-year, ACGME-accredited advanced clinical training program designed to prepare surgeons for careers as surgical intensivists, trauma surgeons, and leaders in academic and clinical environments. The fellowship provides comprehensive training in trauma care, burn management, acute care surgery, surgical intensive care, and critical care medicine. Fellows gain extensive hands-on experience managing critically ill surgical patients through rotations in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and Trauma ICU, with emphasis on advanced management strategies including mechanical ventilation, sepsis care, nutrition support, resuscitation, and complex perioperative management. The program also focuses on didactic education, multidisciplinary collaboration, research, and teaching, enabling fellows to develop advanced clinical decision-making skills and leadership abilities in surgical critical care.
