Fellowship in Sports Medicine

1. Completed residency training in one of the accepted specialties by the start date (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, or Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation).
2. Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship by start date.
3. Applicants should be eligible for fellowship match via NRMP and submit required documentation through ERAS.
4. Good professional standing with strong clinical references and support from residency directors.

The Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine (Tulsa) is a one‑year postgraduate clinical training program designed to develop physicians into specialists in sports and musculoskeletal care. Training combines didactic coursework and hands‑on clinical experiences in sports medicine clinics and orthopedic specialty settings. Fellows gain experience in non‑surgical orthopaedic care, concussion evaluation, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and injury prevention strategies. The curriculum emphasizes real‑world exposure including coverage of team physician duties for college and professional athletic teams, on‑site event care, and collaboration with orthopedic specialists, athletic trainers, and cardiologists. The program mission focuses on education, research, and clinical service, preparing graduates to work effectively with athletes of all levels — from high school competitors to professional sports organizations — and in community health environments. Innovative training environments also include gait analysis labs, VO2 testing, and advanced concussion testing frameworks. Fellows graduate equipped to take leadership roles in sports medicine practice, to support community and competitive athletes, and to pursue board certification options including Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Sports Medicine.
