Final year (Provisional) ANZCA trainee.

OR from an overseas training program comparable to ANZCA (per ANZCA Regulation 23).

Commitment to the fellowship duration (6 months perioperative + likely 6 months general).

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital’s Perioperative Fellowship in Anaesthesia is designed to provide advanced clinical training in the comprehensive perioperative care of complex surgical patients, both in the clinic and theatre settings. Fellows assess patients in pre-admission clinics, perform risk stratification, optimize comorbidities, and plan perioperative strategies. They also take part in theatre sessions, reviewing high-risk surgical patients, and triaging urgent surgical referrals. There is a structured opportunity to join the Echocardiography School, and many fellows complete formal echo qualifications (e.g., Melbourne University diploma or European diploma) during their fellowship. Fellows can also be involved in CPET (cardiopulmonary exercise testing) assessment via respiratory clinicians. The fellowship includes a research/audit component, with fellows participating in quality improvement, monthly complex case meetings, and the acute pain service. The role balances pre-operative clinic sessions, theatre experience, office-based work, and non-clinical time for project work.
