Fellowship in Pediatric Rheumatology

1. MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
2. Completion of an accredited pediatric residency
3. Board eligibility or certification in Pediatrics
4. Valid U.S. medical licensure eligibility
5. Submission of ERAS application materials by program deadlines
6. Letters of recommendation (including from pediatric residency director)
7. Invitation for interview and acceptance through NRMP or program selection process

The Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware is a three-year ACGME-accredited training program designed to prepare pediatricians for expert clinical practice and academic careers in pediatric rheumatology. In the first year, fellows engage in concentrated clinical training — evaluating and managing pediatric patients with rheumatic diseases in outpatient clinics, inpatient settings, consult services, and emergency care, under close supervision. Faculty includes dedicated pediatric rheumatologists and a multidisciplinary team, providing a breadth of exposure to conditions such as juvenile idiopathic arthritis, systemic autoimmune diseases, Lyme-associated arthritis, and other inflammatory disorders. In years two and three, fellows dedicate the majority of their time to independent research and scholarly development, supported by faculty mentorship and access to research resources at Nemours and affiliated institutions (e.g., TJU, NIH partnerships). Research may include clinical or translational projects, quality improvement initiatives, and presentations at national meetings. The program also offers opportunities to collaborate with related specialties including orthopedics, nephrology, infectious disease, and adult rheumatology rotations, enriching fellows’ expertise in complex multidisciplinary care. Graduates are well prepared for board certification and leadership roles in academic, research, or tertiary care pediatric rheumatology settings.
