Fellowship in Pediatric Hospital Medicine

The Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Heersink School of Medicine provides advanced training in the care of hospitalized children, including patients with complex and acute medical conditions. The program combines clinical training with education, research, quality improvement, patient safety, leadership, and scholarly development. Fellows gain experience in inpatient pediatric medicine at Children's of Alabama while working with multidisciplinary healthcare teams and developing skills in teaching, curriculum development, simulation, evidence-based practice, and healthcare improvement. The fellowship also provides individualized mentorship and opportunities to conduct and present research and quality-improvement projects.

1. Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS); Pediatric Hospital Medicine is included among UAB fellowship programs using ERAS.
2. Complete the ERAS Common Application Form.
3. Submit three letters of recommendation, including one from the Department Chair or Residency Director.
4. Submit United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Steps 1, 2 and 3, or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) Levels 1, 2 and 3, as applicable.
5. Submit a personal statement.
6. Submit an updated curriculum vitae and medical school transcript.
7. Participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) process and complete the required Applicant Agreement.
8. Selected applicants proceed through the program's interview and selection process.
