Fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine (FPEM)

The three-year Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at UAB provides comprehensive training in the evaluation, resuscitation, stabilization, and management of acutely ill and injured children. Fellows gain extensive clinical experience in pediatric emergency care, trauma, toxicology, critical care, anesthesia, orthopedics, point-of-care ultrasound, and simulation. The program also emphasizes teaching, research, quality improvement, evidence-based medicine, patient safety, and scholarly activities, with protected time for research and academic development.

1. Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS); applications for the current cycle begin July 1, 2026.
2. Submit the ERAS Common Application Form, personal statement, curriculum vitae, recent photograph, Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE), medical school transcript, and United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) or Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) transcript.
3. Submit three letters of recommendation, including one from the Department of Pediatrics Chair or Residency Director.
4. Selected applicants are invited for interviews, which are scheduled from September through late October.
5. The program participates in the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Specialty Fellowship Match through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), and applicants must sign the NRMP Applicant Agreement.
