Fellowship in Obstetric Anesthesia

1. Candidates must have completed an Anesthesiology Residency Training Program before starting the fellowship.
2. The fellowship is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

The Obstetric Anesthesiology Fellowship at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is a one-year advanced fellowship focused on the anesthetic management of pregnant and postpartum patients, including routine, high-risk, and emergency obstetric cases. Fellows receive extensive clinical training in labor analgesia, cesarean delivery, maternal-fetal medicine, obstetric emergencies, and perioperative management of complex maternal conditions. Training takes place primarily at the UAB Women and Infants Center, with multidisciplinary collaboration involving obstetricians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, neonatologists, and critical care teams. The fellowship also emphasizes teaching, quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical research.
