Fellowship in Obstetric Anesthesia

Must have completed an ACGME-accredited Anesthesiology Residency Program before starting the fellowship

Must possess an MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree

Must be board-certified or board-eligible in Anesthesiology

Must obtain a DEA license before the start of the fellowship

Must obtain a California medical license before the start of the fellowship

Applicants should have an interest in obstetric anesthesia, maternal-fetal medicine, and management of high-risk obstetric patients

The Fellowship in Obstetric Anesthesiology at UC Irvine School of Medicine is a one-year non-ACGME-accredited fellowship program designed to provide advanced clinical training in obstetric anesthesia and develop skilled specialists in the care of pregnant patients, including high-risk obstetric cases. Fellows receive comprehensive training at UCI Health and Long Beach Medical Center, working with fellowship-trained anesthesiologists, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, and neonatologists. The program focuses on advanced peripartum anesthesia care, labor analgesia, cesarean delivery anesthesia, management of complex maternal-fetal conditions, multimodal analgesia, and evidence-based anesthesia practices. Fellows gain hands-on experience in obstetric anesthesia procedures, Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS), clinical decision-making, teaching activities, research, and quality improvement projects to enhance expertise and leadership skills in obstetric anesthesiology.
