Fellowship in Nephrology

1. Applicants must have completed or be completing an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program
2. Must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or equivalent medical degree from an accredited institution
3. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements for fellowship training in the United States
4. International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must fulfill ECFMG certification requirements
5. Candidates should demonstrate interest in clinical nephrology, kidney research, and academic medicine
6. Applicants interested in specific pathways (Clinical Track, Research Track, or Combined Adult/Pediatric Nephrology Track) should indicate their preferred track during the application process

The Nephrology Fellowship Program at UCSF School of Medicine is an advanced clinical and research training program designed to prepare physicians for careers in academic nephrology, clinical practice, research, and healthcare leadership. The fellowship provides comprehensive training in the diagnosis and management of kidney disorders, including acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, electrolyte and acid-base disorders, glomerular diseases, dialysis, and kidney transplantation. Fellows receive clinical training across multiple healthcare settings, including UCSF Health, Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, and San Francisco VA Medical Center, gaining experience with diverse and complex patient populations. The program offers Clinical and Research Tracks, with opportunities for specialized pathways in areas such as glomerular disease, polycystic kidney disease, global health, medical education, transplant nephrology, and clinical research. Fellows receive mentorship from expert faculty and participate in research projects, educational activities, and quality improvement initiatives to develop expertise as skilled nephrologists, educators, and physician-scientists.

8. Final selection is completed through the NRMP Fellowship Match process
9. Matched candidates begin fellowship training at UCSF
