Fellowship in Interventional Pulmonology

• Completion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Pulmonary Diseases & Critical Care Medicine
• Must be board certified in Pulmonary Medicine
• Must be board eligible in Critical Care Medicine
• Strong background and clinical experience in pulmonary and critical care procedures (preferred)
• Must meet UNC GME requirements and licensure eligibility

The Interventional Pulmonology Fellowship at UNC School of Medicine (UNCSOM), Chapel Hill is a one-year advanced subspecialty training program focused on developing expertise in minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for lung and airway diseases. The program provides extensive hands-on experience in advanced techniques such as endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), navigational bronchoscopy, airway stenting, tumor debulking, and pleural interventions, enabling fellows to manage complex conditions including lung cancer, airway obstruction, and pleural disorders. Training is delivered in a high-volume, multidisciplinary environment with close collaboration across pulmonary medicine, thoracic oncology, and critical care teams. In addition to clinical proficiency, the fellowship emphasizes research, academic development, and exposure to emerging technologies, preparing physicians for careers in advanced pulmonary practice, academic medicine, and leadership roles in interventional pulmonology.
