Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology

1. Must have completed the required General Cardiology Fellowship training.
2. Must be eligible for an Alabama Medical License and an Alabama Controlled Substance Certificate.
3. All required licensing examination steps must be completed at the time of application.
4. Must be eligible for Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
5. International Medical Graduates must hold a valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Certificate.
6. There is no minimum United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) score requirement; scores are considered as part of the overall application review.
7. Applicants must also meet the eligibility requirements for training at the Birmingham Veterans Affairs Health Care System, where applicable.

The Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is a comprehensive one-year program providing advanced training in diagnostic and interventional percutaneous coronary procedures, with significant exposure to peripheral and structural cardiovascular interventions. Fellows develop competency in basic peripheral vascular procedures and gain experience with a broad range of established and emerging interventional techniques. The program includes responsibility for pre-procedure assessment and post-procedure patient care, along with weekly interventional conferences, independent study, and hands-on clinical training. Fellows also have opportunities to participate in single-center and multicenter research projects and gain experience in clinical and translational interventional cardiology research.

1. Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. Submit a current Curriculum Vitae (CV) updated within the previous three months.
3. Submit medical school transcripts and diploma if requested.
4. Submit the Medical School Dean's Letter.
5. Provide three Letters of Recommendation, including recommendations from former program directors.
6. Submit a certificate or verification of previous residency training.
7. Provide documentation confirming eligibility for an Alabama Medical License and Alabama Controlled Substance Certificate.
8. Demonstrate eligibility for Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
9. International Medical Graduates must submit a valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Certificate.
10. Applications are reviewed through UAB's selection process, and selected applicants are invited for interviews.
11. Applications are generally open from July through September, interviews begin in September, Match Day is in November, and the fellowship begins on July 1.
