About Course

The Interventional Cardiology Fellowship affiliated with New York Medical College is an ACGME-accredited advanced subspecialty training program designed to prepare cardiologists for independent practice in interventional cardiovascular medicine. The fellowship provides comprehensive education in diagnostic cardiac catheterization, coronary angioplasty, stenting, structural heart procedures, peripheral vascular interventions, and complex coronary disease management.
The fellowship offers intensive procedural exposure across NYMC-affiliated tertiary care hospitals equipped with advanced cardiac catheterization laboratories and high-volume cardiovascular centers. Fellows participate in emergent and elective interventions including STEMI management, chronic total occlusion (CTO) interventions, intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), fractional flow reserve (FFR), atherectomy procedures, transcatheter therapies, and mechanical circulatory support procedures.
The curriculum combines hands-on catheterization laboratory experience with structured academic learning through case conferences, cardiovascular imaging review, journal clubs, multidisciplinary heart team discussions, morbidity and mortality meetings, and evidence-based cardiology education. Fellows work closely with experienced interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, cardiac surgeons, vascular specialists, and critical care teams.
Training strongly emphasizes procedural competency, patient safety, hemodynamic interpretation, cardiovascular imaging integration, and emergency cardiovascular care. Fellows are also encouraged to participate in clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, national cardiology conferences, and scholarly publications throughout training.
NYMC’s affiliated cardiovascular centers provide exposure to diverse and medically complex patient populations, allowing fellows to develop advanced decision-making skills in both routine and high-risk cardiovascular interventions. Graduates are prepared for American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certification in Interventional Cardiology and future careers in tertiary care hospitals, academic cardiology, structural heart programs, and private cardiovascular practice.
