Fellowship in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

• MD / DO or equivalent medical degree
• Completion of Internal Medicine Residency
• Completion of a 3-year accredited Gastroenterology Fellowship
• Board Eligible / Board Certified in Gastroenterology
• Strong clinical experience in gastroenterology and endoscopy
• Demonstrated interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) care and research
• Eligible for medical licensure in North Carolina (USA)
• Good academic background with involvement in research / scholarly activities

The Advanced Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Fellowship at UNC School of Medicine is a specialized one-year program focused on developing expertise in the diagnosis and management of complex IBD conditions such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. The fellowship provides comprehensive clinical training in a high-volume academic center, allowing fellows to work closely with multidisciplinary teams and manage challenging cases using advanced medical therapies and endoscopic techniques. Emphasis is placed on individualized patient care, exposure to emerging treatments, and participation in specialized IBD clinics. Fellows are also actively involved in clinical research and academic activities, gaining experience in clinical trials and evidence-based practice. The program aims to prepare physicians for leadership roles in IBD care, whether in academic medicine or advanced clinical practice.
