Fellowship in Hand Surgery

• Possess an MD or equivalent medical degree
• Successfully complete an accredited Plastic Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, or General Surgery residency program
• Meet New York State licensure requirements
• International graduates must hold ECFMG certification
• Submit ASSH Common Application
• Participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP)
• Demonstrate strong clinical and surgical skills with interest in hand and upper-extremity surgery
• Submit application before the program deadline and approximately 12 months prior to fellowship start date

The Fellowship in Hand Surgery at NYU Grossman School of Medicine is one of the premier advanced training programs in hand and upper-extremity surgery in the United States. The program is conducted through the Hansjörg Wyss Department of Plastic Surgery and provides comprehensive exposure to the full spectrum of hand surgery, including traumatic injuries, congenital anomalies, degenerative disorders, nerve injuries, tendon reconstruction, microsurgery, and limb salvage procedures. Fellows receive extensive operative experience across multiple high-volume clinical sites, including NYU Langone Health, NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, and NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn. The fellowship offers exceptional training in acute trauma management, hand replantation, brachial plexus surgery, reconstructive procedures, and complex upper-extremity care. Fellows actively participate in outpatient clinics, surgical procedures, multidisciplinary treatment planning, postoperative rehabilitation, and academic conferences. The curriculum incorporates regular journal clubs, grand rounds, cadaver laboratories, research activities, and collaborative educational sessions with orthopedic surgery faculty. Graduates are prepared for leadership roles in academic medicine, specialized clinical practice, and advanced reconstructive hand surgery.
