Fellowship in Glaucoma

• Applicants must have completed an accredited Ophthalmology Residency Program.
• Must hold an MD (Doctor of Medicine), DO (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine), or equivalent medical degree.
• Must have completed required ophthalmology residency training and be eligible for advanced subspecialty fellowship training.
• Applicants must meet U.S. clinical training requirements, including applicable licensing and certification requirements.
• International Medical Graduates (IMGs) must fulfill the requirements for clinical training eligibility in the United States.

The Glaucoma Fellowship at UC Irvine School of Medicine (Gavin Herbert Eye Institute), Irvine is a one-year advanced ophthalmology fellowship program focused on comprehensive training in the diagnosis, management, and surgical treatment of glaucoma and complex anterior segment disorders. The program provides extensive clinical and surgical experience in glaucoma evaluation, medical therapy, laser procedures, and advanced surgical techniques, including minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), glaucoma drainage devices, trabeculectomy, and combined cataract-glaucoma procedures. Fellows receive hands-on training through clinical services at the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, UC Irvine Medical Center, and affiliated sites, along with opportunities for research, teaching residents, and academic development. The fellowship prepares graduates for careers as glaucoma specialists, academic ophthalmologists, and advanced glaucoma surgeons.
