The Fellowship in Emergency Medicine Innovation at UCSF School of Medicine, San Francisco is a 1-year fellowship program designed for Emergency Medicine physicians who aim to become leaders in healthcare innovation, human-centered design, digital health, clinical informatics, and healthcare system improvement. The fellowship provides immersive training through the UCSF Acute Care Innovation Center, where fellows learn innovation methodologies, design thinking, implementation science, and operational transformation strategies to improve emergency care delivery. Fellows maintain clinical skills through emergency department attending shifts at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG), a Level 1 Trauma Center, while dedicating protected time to innovation projects, leadership curriculum, certificate-based training, and scholarly activities. The program culminates in a capstone innovation project with a sustainability plan and opportunities for academic presentations or publications, preparing graduates for leadership roles in emergency medicine innovation and healthcare transformation.
