Fellowship in Colorectal Surgery

1. Must have completed an accredited General Surgery Residency Program in the United States or Canada.
2. Must be qualified to sit for the American Board of Surgery (ABS) examination.
3. International medical graduates must be Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG)-certified at the time of application.
4. Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) applicants must have completed United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Steps 1 and 2.

Stanford Medicine Health Care (SHC) is an academic healthcare institution affiliated with Stanford University School of Medicine, providing advanced patient care, medical education, and clinical research. The Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship is a one-year advanced training program focused on the surgical management of diseases affecting the colon, rectum, and anus, including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor disorders, and anorectal conditions. Fellows gain extensive experience in minimally invasive and open surgical techniques, endoscopy, non-operative management, multidisciplinary patient care, and complex colorectal cases. The program also includes clinical conferences, didactic sessions, journal clubs, research, and other scholarly activities to prepare fellows for independent practice in Colon and Rectal Surgery.

1. Submit the fellowship application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. Include a current curriculum vitae and personal statement.
3. Submit a minimum of three letters of recommendation using the Standardized Letter of Evaluation (SLOE).
4. Submit USMLE transcripts.
5. Submit American Board of Surgery In-Training Examination (ABSITE) transcripts.
6. International medical graduates must submit an ECFMG certificate, if applicable.
7. Completed applications are reviewed in July; interview invitations are sent in August, and interviews are conducted virtually in September.
8. The fellowship participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
9. The matched applicant begins the fellowship on August 1 of the following year.
