Fellowship in Clinical Informatics

The Clinical Informatics Fellowship at UCSF School of Medicine is a 2-year advanced training program designed for physicians who have completed residency and wish to specialize in the intersection of healthcare, data, and technology. The program focuses on building expertise in electronic health records (EHR), healthcare data analytics, clinical decision support, digital health systems, and quality improvement initiatives. Fellows engage in hands-on, project-based learning across UCSF Health and affiliated systems, working on real-world informatics solutions that improve patient care and healthcare delivery. The curriculum is flexible and self-directed, allowing fellows to tailor their training through research, leadership activities, and interdisciplinary collaboration, while also participating in didactics, journal clubs, and academic sessions. Fellows typically spend a limited portion of time in clinical practice and the majority in informatics training, preparing them to become leaders in clinical informatics, healthcare innovation, and data-driven medicine.
