Fellowship in Clinical Informatics

• Hold an MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree.
• Complete an ACGME-accredited residency in an eligible primary specialty.
• Be board-eligible or board-certified in the primary specialty.
• Be eligible for an unrestricted Illinois medical license.
• Submit an application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS/MyERAS).
• A CAP Standardized Fellowship Application is also accepted.
• Submit a current Curriculum Vitae (CV).
• Submit a Personal Statement.
• Submit three letters of recommendation.
• Participate in an interview if shortlisted

The Clinical Informatics Fellowship at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine is a two-year ACGME-accredited program designed to train physicians to become leaders in the rapidly evolving field of healthcare informatics. Offered through the Department of Pathology in collaboration with Northwestern Medicine, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, and Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, the fellowship provides broad exposure to operational, academic, research, and quality improvement initiatives across multiple healthcare systems. Fellows receive hands-on experience in electronic health record (EHR) implementation, clinical decision support, interoperability, health information exchange, data analytics, artificial intelligence, clinical bioinformatics, laboratory information systems, medical imaging informatics, and physician leadership. The curriculum combines practical rotations with graduate-level coursework in Health Informatics or Health Data Analytics offered through Northwestern University's School of Professional Studies. Fellows also participate in the Clinical Informatics Learning Roundtable, Epic EHR training, multidisciplinary projects, and mentored scholarly activities while maintaining part-time clinical practice in their primary specialty, as required by the ACGME. Graduates are well prepared for careers as Chief Medical Information Officers (CMIOs), physician informaticists, academic faculty, healthcare executives, and leaders in digital health innovation.
