Fellowship in Clinical Cardiac Electro Physiology

The Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is a two-year, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited program designed to provide advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of complex cardiac rhythm disorders. Fellows receive extensive clinical experience in electrophysiology studies, catheter ablation procedures, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia, syncope, heart block, sinus node dysfunction, and cardiac arrest. Training also includes the implantation and management of pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization therapy devices, and implantable loop recorders. The program incorporates electrophysiology simulation, electrocardiogram and intracardiac tracing review, device-related conferences, journal clubs, and clinical and basic science research opportunities.

1. Apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
2. Submit a current Curriculum Vitae (CV) updated within the previous three months.
3. Submit medical school transcripts and diploma if requested.
4. Submit the Medical School Dean’s Letter.
5. Provide three Letters of Recommendation, including recommendations from former program directors.
6. Submit a certificate or verification of previous residency training.
7. Provide documentation demonstrating eligibility for an Alabama Medical License and Alabama Controlled Substance Certificate.
8. Demonstrate eligibility for Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.
9. International Medical Graduates must submit a valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Certificate.
10. No additional documents are accepted outside the Electronic Residency Application Service submission.
11. Applications are open July through September, reviewed in August, with interviews beginning in September.
12. Applicants participate in the November Match, and the fellowship begins on July 1.
13. UAB can sponsor H-1B and J-1 visas for eligible applicants.
