Fellowship in Cardiology

The General Cardiology (Cardiovascular Disease) Fellowship at UCSF School of Medicine is a comprehensive three-year program that provides advanced training in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of cardiovascular diseases across diverse patient populations. Fellows receive extensive hands-on clinical experience in inpatient and outpatient settings, covering key areas such as cardiac imaging, electrophysiology, heart failure, interventional cardiology, and preventive cardiology, while working in high-volume tertiary care hospitals. The program integrates strong academic and research components, encouraging participation in clinical and translational research, quality improvement initiatives, and teaching activities, along with opportunities for subspecialty focus and career development, ultimately preparing fellows for board certification and leadership roles in academic medicine or specialized clinical practice.

1. Apply through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) – online application only (no paper applications)
2. Submit required documents (CV, personal statement, LORs, transcripts, etc.)
3. Applications open in July and deadline is typically August
4. Shortlisted candidates are invited for virtual interviews (Sept–Oct)
5. Submit rank order list via NRMP Match
6. Final selection announced on Match Day (December)
7. Fellowship training begins in July (next academic year)
