The Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine Fellowship at UAB Heersink School of Medicine is a one-year advanced training program providing comprehensive clinical and laboratory experience in blood banking, transfusion medicine, apheresis, and coagulation. Fellows receive training in patient blood management, pre-transfusion testing, antibody investigations, transfusion reaction evaluation, blood component therapy, hemostasis consultation, therapeutic apheresis, photopheresis, transplantation immunogenetics, and human leukocyte antigen services. The program also provides exposure to donor and reference laboratory services through American Red Cross Blood Services, along with opportunities for multidisciplinary consultation, teaching, and research.
