Fellowship Course in Cytopathology

The Cytopathology Fellowship at UMass Chan Medical School is a one-year, ACGME-accredited program for pathologists board eligible or certified in AP/CP or AP, offering comprehensive training in diagnostic cytopathology including ultrasound-guided fine needle aspirations, interpretation of gynecological and non-gynecological specimens, and molecular testing techniques. The program uniquely combines clinical diagnostic training with applied basic science in cell biology and exposure to emerging technology in microbiopsy procurement and rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE), while fellows build teaching and communication skills through multidisciplinary conferences and resident instruction. With department-funded research opportunities and a high-volume, complex case mix, the fellowship prepares graduates for board certification and future leadership in the field of cytopathology.
